St. Jerome Cathedral

Monument to the Porro "Maria Varilla"
A Maria Varilla raising her skirt in the air, surrounded by six musicians playing instruments typical of the porro, represent the characters who live in Montería (Córdoba), and who are located on the banks of the Sinú River, in the city center.
The sculptural work, in homage to the porro, the most representative symbol of Córdoba culture, consists of six bronze sculptures portraying performers of the genre who—amid the sounds of instruments such as the euphonium, the clarinet, and the snare drum, among others—play for the legendary María Varilla (1883-1940) to dance among them.
